This booklet is a record of Sharjah Art Foundation’s exhibition of the work of Emirati artist Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim, curated by Hoor Al Qasimi. It covers over three decades of the artist’s practice, which includes paintings, drawings, sculpture and installations as well as documentation of the artist’s vast explorations into land art. His practice has been inspired by a lifelong relationship with the environment of Khorfakkan, located in the mountainous eastern region of the Emirate of Sharjah. This exhibition traces the aesthetic and conceptual concerns that run throughout Ibrahim’s practice, such as his use of permutations and his interest in the effect of human beings on the natural environment and the demise of nature that accompanies urban development. These concerns are evidenced in his various land art projects and the tools he produces, which evoke thoughts of the primordial. The exhibition also includes the artist’s two new site-specific installations, which are expansions of Ibrahim’s meditative practice in symbols and lines as well as his concern with nature.
