ABOUT ME
The Palestine Folk Museum: The Untold Story (1926-2012) sheds light on an extraordinary collection of costumes, jewellery, tools and other traditional items from Palestine. Originally gathered by a group of colonists and Palestinians during the British Mandate era, the collection has since been publicly exhibited, preserved and repeatedly salvaged by activist individuals who foresaw the disappearance of heritage crafts and historical objects from various regions in Palestine.
This first-hand account of the Palestine Folk Museum’s history is researched and written by Khaled A. Khatib, an engineer from Jerusalem and the director of the Palestinian Heritage Museum, a modern-day national museum in the heart of Jerusalem. The publication details the tumultuous history of the collection, tracing its journey from exhibitions abroad and last-minute escapes from destruction, to long periods of dormancy until its revival decades later. The holdings have finally found a permanent home in the Palestinian Heritage Museum, where they can be viewed today.
