    ABOUT

This publication accompanied March Meeting: Leaving the Echo Chamber, the 11th edition of March Meeting, Sharjah Art Foundation’s annual convening of artists and art practitioners to explore critical issues in contemporary art through panels, lectures and performances. It contains a Foreword by Hoor Al Qasimi, a schedule of the March Meeting 2019 (MM 2019) programme and biographies of the panelists.

For MM 2019, Sharjah Biennial 14 curators Zoe Butt, Omar Kholeif and Claire Tancons were invited to organise three distinct programmes that expanded on the concept explored in their respective platforms for the Biennial’s 14th edition, titled Leaving the Echo Chamber. In popular culture, the ‘Echo Chamber’ is a moniker for circuitous news media and its attendant feeds that are reinforced by a closed system. ‘Leaving the Echo Chamber’ sought not to propose a ‘how’ to ‘leave’ this context, but rather ways to put into conversation a series of provocations on how one might re-negotiate the shape, form and function of this chamber.

Speakers for MM 2019 included Khadim Ali, Caline Aoun, Tarek El-Ariss, Aisha Bilkhair, Hannah Black, Yarimar Bonilla, Mohamed Bourouissa, Imani Jacqueline Brown, Zoe Butt, Anis Chouchene, Jace Clayton, Douglas Coupland, Koray Duman, Torkwase Dyson, Adrienne Edwards, Léuli Eshräghi, Reem Fadda, Hannah Feldman, Ebba Fransén Waldhör, Peter Friedl, Meschac Gaba, Nikolaus Gansterer, HACKLANDER / HATAM, Ho Tzu Nyen, Eisa Jocson, Alexandre Kazerouni, Omar Kholeif, Koyo Kouoh, Lee Weng Choy, Isabel Lewis, Ulrik López, Matthew, Lutz-Kinoy, Michael Marder, Carlos Martiel, Mohau Modisakeng, Aram Moshayedi, Neo Muyanga, New Orleans Airlift, Tuân Andrew Nguyên, Otobong Nkanga, Sarah Perks, Fatima Al Oasimi, Philippe Rahm, Shubigi Rao, Yasmine El Rashidi, Lisa Reihana, Todd Reisz, Diego del Valle Ríos, Tracey Rose, Felwine Sarr, Kidlat Tahimik, Claire Tancons, Sofia Victorino, Fabian Villegas, Akram Zaatari and correspondents include Federica Bueti, Golnaz Esmaili, Özgün Eylül iscen, Tala Gharagozlou, Mahshid Rafiei.
