This publication accompanied Sharjah Biennial 11's Film Programme and the launch of the Mirage City Cinema, a cinema-architecture space at Sharjah Art Foundation’s New Art Spaces. Designed and curated by Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Ole Scheeren, the architectural design was developed in relation to Yuko Hasegawa’s investigation of courtyards for Sharjah Biennial 11. Weerasethakul invited Tilda Swinton, Jean-Pierre Rehm, Ali Jaffar, Steve Anker, Alcino Leite Neto, Khavn De La Cruz and Mehelli Modi to share lists of films that forever haunted them.
After a short text by Scheeren on the concept of the cinema-architecture space, the book is divided into seven sections where each contributor’s film selections are listed alongside an interview between them and Weerasethakul. The book ends with a list of films from Apichatpong Weerasethakul and a short essay about the inspirations behind the film programme and Mirage City Cinema.
