Published to accompany Sharjah Biennial 9, Provisions is an experimental catalogue approaching the space of the book as an art project. With an attention to the theme, which was focusing on production and process, each participating artist was asked to respond to a questionnaire about their work in the Biennial.
The result is an amalgamation of notes, collages, annotations, sketches, maquettes and ideas that would eventually – for most – become site-specific projects created in Sharjah. This publication is the first book in a set of two that, together, aims to document the process of making and of presenting site-specific work in the biennial context.
Each artist was given seven pages of the catalogue to respond to the questionnaire, provide sketches and other visuals, as well as providing biographical information and an installation view of their work.
