YAZ publications is a 13-part series of books featuring artist contributions, fictional and creative texts, editorial compilations and book exhibitions. Edited by curator Zeynep Öz, it forms part of her contribution to Sharjah Biennial 16. The conception and development of this series and its exhibitions have frequently overlapped, with some publications transforming into spatial commissions or leaving imprints within the exhibitions, though these connections have often been indirect and nonlinear.
YAZ, which means both summer and write/writing in Turkish, engages with the social and economic challenges of contemporary life, exploring how individuals can contribute to polity in an era of rapid technological advancement. The series also examines themes of home, mobility and financial instability, questioning how modern friendships are formed, expanded or discarded, and what kinds of social or financial contracts emerge during times of transition. Its cryptography-inspired design, with iridescent elements, alludes to the central role of labor, payments and exchange in shaping these evolving systems.
YAZ publications features contributions from Ana Iti & Megan Tamati-Quennell, Andrea Torreblanca, Aslı Çetinkaya, Aslı Seven, Aslı Uludağ, Ayşe Güngör, Ayoung Kim, Ayşe İdil İdil, Ayumi Paul, Betül Aksu, Bianca Foratori, Burak Arıkan, Charles Mudade with Amal Issa, Daniela Castro, Dawn Chan, Deleuze Was Wrong + Claudio Moreira, Deniz Kırkalı, Ecem Arslanay, Ekin Tümer, Emre Hüner, Erica X Eisen, Eylül İşcen, Fabio Morais, Fatma Belkıs, Fazal Rizvi, Filipa Ramos, Gökçen Erkılıç, Grupo Cena 11, Hellen Ascoli, Jacob Durieux & Sophie Accolas, Jenna Sutela, Kirkor Dabanyan, Lexy Funk, Luisa González Reiche, May Alqaydi, Meliha Erem, Merve Elveren, Merve Ertufan & Mochu, Merve Yücel, Nadir Sönmez, Natasha Ginwala, Natha Calhova, Negma Coy San, Okay Karadayılar, Okyanus Çağrı Camcı, Onur Ceritoğlu, Rajyashri Goody, Sarah DeMeuse, Sevil Tunaboylu, Sonia Levy, Sophia Tintori, Taloi Havini, Tobi Maier, Tyler Coburn, Vitória Cribb, Wendy Vogel, Yavuz Selim Güler, Zeynep Öz and Zühal Gems.
